Hiring through ShareHire should be simple, safe and straightforward.

As a Hirer, you have a responsibility to look after the equipment you hire, use it safely and return it in the condition you received it.

Check it. Use it safely. Look after it. Return it as agreed.

KEEP YOUR DETAILS ACCURATE

Make sure the information you provide to ShareHire when registering and booking equipment is accurate and up to date.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE QUALIFIED TO USE THE EQUIPMENT

Some equipment may require a particular licence, permit, certification or qualification to operate.

Before booking or using equipment, make sure:

• You have any licence, permit or qualification legally required to operate it.
• Your licence or qualification is current and valid.
• You can provide evidence to the Lister if requested.
• You understand and can comply with any laws, safety requirements or road rules that apply.

Never operate - or allow someone else to operate - equipment without the legally required licence or qualification.

KNOW WHERE YOU STAND ON INSURANCE

ShareHire does not provide or arrange insurance for Hirers, and the Lister's insurance is there for their equipment, not for you.

If you are hiring for a business, our Terms of Business ask you to hold public liability insurance of at least $10 million ($20 million for Higher-Risk Category equipment). We may ask for a certificate of currency, particularly for Higher-Risk Category bookings.

If you are hiring privately, you probably don't hold public liability cover, and that's fine for most everyday equipment - just be aware that you are responsible for any injury or damage you cause while using it. For larger equipment, check whether your home and contents policy extends to it, or ask your insurer.

Some equipment is designated Higher-Risk Category - generally anything that needs a licence, permit or High-Risk Work Licence to operate. It may be available only to business Hirers, or to Hirers who can provide evidence of insurance, licensing or competency.

KNOW HOW TO USE IT

Before using the equipment, read or watch any instructions, manuals or demonstrations provided by the Lister.

Always use the equipment in accordance with the Lister's instructions, manufacturer recommendations and applicable safety requirements.

If you are unsure how something works, ask the Lister before using it.

CHECK IT BEFORE YOU TAKE IT

Take a few minutes to inspect the equipment at the start of your hire.

Check its general condition and look for any existing damage, wear or missing parts.

If you notice something, let the Lister know and report it through ShareHire before using the equipment. Take clear photos so there is a record of its condition at the beginning of the hire.

Taking a few photos at collection can help protect both you and the Lister if there is a question about damage later.

LOOK AFTER THE EQUIPMENT

Treat hired equipment as if it were your own.

Use it responsibly, safely and only for its intended purpose. Follow any operating restrictions or conditions agreed with the Lister.

You are responsible for damage resulting from negligent use, misuse or failure to follow the instructions provided.

FOLLOW THE RULES

Comply with applicable laws, regulations, licensing requirements and safety requirements while the equipment is in your possession.

You are also responsible for complying with the Hire Agreement, including the agreed hire period, payment obligations and return arrangements.

RETURN IT ON TIME

Return the equipment at the agreed time and location, together with any accessories, attachments or other items supplied with it.

If you need more time, request an extension through ShareHire before the hire period ends. If equipment is not returned within 12 hours of the end of the hire period and no extension has been requested, the Lister may mark it as returned late and late fees will apply in accordance with our Late Fees Policy.

Before handing it back, check the equipment and let the Lister know if anything has happened during the hire.

REPORT ANY PROBLEMS PROMPTLY

Accidents happen. If equipment has been damaged, has malfunctioned or has missing parts, report it through ShareHire as soon as possible and no later than 4 hours after returning the equipment. You should also let the Lister know.

This allows the issue to be documented and the Lister to provide supporting information, such as photos, repair quotes or other evidence where required.

Failing to report damage within the required timeframe may affect how responsibility for the damage and associated costs is determined.

UNDERSTAND YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT (BOND)

Where a Security Deposit (Bond) applies to your booking, reasonable costs associated with damage, repairs, replacement or applicable late fees may be deducted from the Security Deposit in accordance with ShareHire's Terms of Business and applicable policies.

The Security Deposit is there to provide protection when something goes wrong - another good reason to document the condition of the equipment at the beginning and end of every hire.
