There are a few things to consider when deciding how to protect you and your equipment when listing it on ShareHire.
ShareHire does not provide or arrange insurance of any kind for Listers or Hirers. Insurance is your responsibility.
SECURITY (BOND) DEPOSIT
A Security Deposit (Bond) can provide additional protection in the event of damage, loss, theft, late return or other issues during a hire.
The amount you choose is up to you and should reflect the value of your equipment and the level of risk you are comfortable with. For more information on setting a Security Deposit, see our Rental Pricing Guide.
COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE
Where a Security Deposit (Bond) alone may not provide sufficient protection, there is another important consideration - comprehensive insurance.
The owner or Lister must have appropriate comprehensive insurance in place for the relevant items listed on ShareHire.
As the Lister, it is your responsibility to:
ADDING AN INSURANCE EXCESS TO YOUR LISTING
If you have appropriate comprehensive insurance, you may choose to include your applicable insurance excess on your ShareHire listing.
Before doing so, it is important to confirm with your insurer that your equipment is covered when it is hired to and used by other people through a peer to peer platform. (Known as Dry Hire).
Do not assume that a standard comprehensive insurance policy automatically covers peer to peer hire.
Any insurance information or excess you add to your ShareHire listing must be accurate and reflect your current policy.
It is the Lister's responsibility to make appropriate disclosures to their insurer and ensure the insurance information provided on ShareHire is accurate.
ShareHire is not liable for any inaccurate or misleading information provided by a Lister or for a Lister's failure to disclose the nature of the equipment's use to their insurer.
If you are unsure whether your comprehensive insurance covers peer to peer hire, please check with your insurer.
PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE
Public liability insurance covers you if someone is injured, or their property is damaged, while your equipment is being used by a Hirer.
If you run a business, you almost certainly hold it already. If you are listing privately, check with your insurer what you are covered for before you list.
Our Terms of Business ask Listers to hold public liability cover of at least $10 million ($20 million for Higher-Risk Category equipment - generally anything that needs a licence to operate, such as vehicles, excavators and elevating work platforms).
For Higher-Risk Category listings we may ask for a certificate of currency before the listing goes live. For other equipment we may ask for a certificate of currency from time to time.
Beyond that, your policy and its terms are between you and your insurer. If you're unsure what you're covered for, ask before you list.
