Listing equipment on ShareHire is a great way to put equipment you already own to work and earn extra income, but it also comes with a few responsibilities.
A few simple things can help make every booking run smoothly and give Hirers confidence when booking your equipment.
LIST IT ACCURATELY
Your listing should give Hirers a clear and honest picture of what they are hiring.
Make sure you:
OWN IT, OR BE AUTHORISED TO HIRE IT OUT
You must own the equipment you list, or be aN authorised representative of the business that owns it. You can't list equipment owned by an employer, client or someone else without their written authorisation, or equipment under a lease or finance agreement that doesn't allow sub-hire.
ShareHire may ask for proof of ownership at any time. If you can't provide it within 48 hours, the listing may be suspended.
KEEP YOUR AVAILABILITY UP TO DATE
If your equipment is listed as available, Hirers should be able to rely on that information.
Update your ShareHire calendar whenever equipment becomes unavailable and avoid cancelling confirmed bookings unless there is a genuine reason.
If plans do change, communicate with the Hirer as early as possible.
KEEP COMMUNICATION ON SHAREHIRE
Use ShareHire to manage your booking and important communication with the Hirer.
Keeping booking details and conversations in one place makes the hire easier to manage and gives both parties a clear record if something needs to be checked later.
CONFIRM THE RETURN
When equipment comes back, confirm its return through ShareHire within 12 hours of the end of the hire period, or within 12 hours of the Hirer marking it as returned - whichever comes first. If you don't confirm within that window after the Hirer has marked it returned, late fees can't be charged.
Inspect the equipment before you mark the booking as complete. If you find damage, report it through ShareHire straight away with details and photos.
REPORT PROBLEMS PROMPTLY
If equipment is returned damaged, late, incomplete or not returned at all, report the issue through ShareHire as soon as possible. Damage claims must however be submitted within 24 hours of the equipment being returned.
Provide clear details and supporting information, including photos where relevant, and follow the ShareHire claims and/or dispute process.
KNOW YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
As the equipment owner, Lister or Supplier, you are responsible for meeting any laws, regulations, registration, maintenance, safety, insurance, tax or other requirements that apply to you or your equipment.
Requirements can vary depending on the type of equipment and where you operate, so make sure you understand what applies before listing.
Income earned through ShareHire may be assessable for tax. ShareHire may share transaction information where required to meet tax reporting obligations.
For what's expected on insurance, including public liability cover and Higher-Risk Category equipment, see our Lister Insurance page.
