EQUIPMENT SAFETY FOR OWNERS

As the Owner or Lister, there are also some things you need to take care of outside the ShareHire platform.

As a Lister, you are responsible for making sure your equipment is safe, accurately listed and ready for the Hirer when they need it.

KEEP YOUR EQUIPMENT SAFE AND READY TO USE

Equipment must be safe, functional and suitable for its intended use when handed over to a Hirer.

Before every hire, make sure you:

• Check that the equipment is in good working order.
• Complete any required servicing and maintenance.
• Check safety features, guards and other protective equipment.
• Make sure the equipment is clean and ready to use.
• Provide any operating instructions or safety information the Hirer reasonably needs.

If something is not working properly, do not hire it out until it has been fixed.

BE CLEAR ABOUT SAFE USE

Some equipment needs a little more explanation than others.

Let the Hirer know about any important operating requirements, safety precautions or restrictions before they take the equipment.

Where equipment requires a particular licence, qualification or level of experience, make this clear in your listing and confirm the Hirer meets those requirements before handing over the equipment.

BE READY FOR COLLECTION OR DELIVERY

A good hire starts with a smooth handover.

Make sure the equipment is available at the agreed time and location and communicate with the Hirer if anything changes.

At handover, take a moment to:

• Confirm the equipment being supplied.
• Point out any existing damage or wear.
• Explain anything the Hirer needs to know.
• Provide any agreed accessories, attachments or documentation.

Taking clear photos of the equipment at the start and end of the hire is also a good idea. They can be useful if there is ever a question about its condition.

KNOW YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

As the equipment owner or Supplier, you are responsible for meeting any laws, regulations, registration, maintenance, safety, insurance, tax or other requirements that apply to you or your equipment.

Requirements can vary depending on the type of equipment and where you operate, so make sure you understand what applies before listing.
